Curtain Call

CURTAIN CALL proposes the construction of a room. Unlike a sprawling installation, a room brings people together. It surrounds the crowd. This enclosure is created with a circular curtain, 26 feet tall, hanging one foot off the ground, suspended from a truss and supported by eight columns, each located in a discrete parking space. When the curtains are drawn “open”, the fabric is bunched in the 8 parking spaces where the seating and stage are stored. When the curtains are drawn “closed”, Curtain Call becomes a beacon of event, a room for gathering. This project proposes that the simplest action, enclosing a space, framing the view and reducing the city’s noise, can mobilize people to make use of their public spaces.
